Challenge

Malaysian based startup incubator Launchpad Startups signed up with Horion Digital Ltd to support their MVP product and start building a new platform with more features and scalability. In order to raise investment and become a leading job listing platform in Malaysia, they needed a realiable technical partner.

Solution

Since Scoot.my had a minimum viable product, they had a good understanding about their target customer, their expectations and what were the key areas we should be focusing on when building a Scoot 2.0 version. We went through user profiling, user stories, competitive analysis, wireframing and user interface design, branding, graphic design and development.

Results

In 4 months we built a complete job listing platform with artificial intelligence for talent matching purposes, extensive employer and job seeker functionality, inner platform communication tools and notification system. We also implemented an asset management infrastructure, and organized it to be scalable.

User Profiles

User profiles represented the types of the Scoot.my users, who look for a job or hire people on a daily basis. While building a tool should help people get matched to the right job, User profiles and stories was a good starting point in order to build a user centered product. we needed more contextual information and insight into the people

Competitive Analysis

By carrying out the competitive analysis we looked at the user journey around the platform. During a number of discussions with client and experts we looked into potential UX pitfalls, which other platforms had and put our findings

Wireframes

Prototyping and understanding the architecture of application was our next step. User stories were used and turned into rough jinformation architecture maps. We uncovered and sketched more than 45 information display windows.

This helped us to analyze what users expected to see and do when using the application. Because of its visual nature, information architecture and user journey maps filled in the information gaps between Horion Digital and our client.

User Interface design

The first phase of user interface design was dedicated to understanding how the Scoot.me users used the website in its early stages. By using heatmaps and data from Google Analytics we identified the bottle necks – parts of the website where users spent most of their time and user interface lacked clarity.

We applied the learnings along with ‘mobile first’ approach and designed an intuitive interface, which rendered nicely on mobile devices. The research about usability continued by applying tools provided by Full Story product.

Responsive Web Application

It’s tough to deliver a native-app-like experience with a web application. However, we built this web platform with mobile user in mind. For a startup company like Skootjobs, having a responsive web application is another step towards refining and researching user needs on mobile devices.

Job Matching Engine

Horion Digital engineers helped Scoot.my to become one of it’s kind job matching platform, which matches candidates with the right employees instantly after users complete their profiles. With tools like appointment scheduling, invitation to apply system and in-app messaging, it delivers value to the users on both sides.

Conclusion

Working with high velocity startup like Skoot requires great coordination. The goal of the project was to build a platform that provides exceptional job hunting experience and is ready for growth. This involved using job matching algorithms, easy signup process, feature rich user panels for job hunters and recruiters. By designing a site that was driven by the user desire to find a job – we had to live up to high user’s expectations, which will grow and change over time with the company itself.
